Gravel Parking areas can be constructed several different ways below, based upon your budget and anticipated use of your project.
(ie : High volume/Heavy vehicles vs. occasional Boat or Trailer storage)
“Simple Spread: "
Light Duty Parking, Occasional Use.
No excavation of existing area, simple spread and grade of Gravel or Asphalt Millings.
“Budget:"
Will accomodate most parking needs, but may have weeds come thru eventually, and some wash-out over time with daily use.
Minimal removal of grass top layer, application of 3-4” of Gravel or Asphalt Millings.
This can be done with or without optional Landscape Paper/Weed Barrier at customer request.
“Better:”
Suitable for daily use, will be a good solid surface.
4-6” Excavation of Top Layer, Application of Geo Textile Fabric which helps prevent weed growth and keeps gravel from sinking into soil base over time from vehicle weight, which causes ruts and wash-out areas.
“Best:”
Best for heavy/daily use, "Gravel Driveway Quality"
6-8” Excavation of Top Layer, Geo Textile Fabric, 3-4” of Large Gravel, 3-4” of top coat Gravel or Asphalt Millings.
Additional considerations to consider:
Edging of some sort, now or future to contain Gravel Area.
Examples: Plastic Edging, Rocks, Pavers, Railroad Ties, etc.
Smoothing out ruts on a washed-out Gravel Driveway with our Land Plane
Existing Gravel driveways can be “rejuvenated” without the addition of Gravel for cost savings.
We bring in a “Land Plane” with scarifying teeth and agitate and re-level 2-3” of existing Gravel/Substrate material leaving a newly leveled surface and smoothing out ruts.
Final quality will depend on the amount of Gravel still remaining on existing driveway surface. If nearly all Gravel has washed away, this “rejuvenation” treatment will leave the surface fresh and level, but obviously without additional gravel.
Pricing:
Additional gravel/material being brought in is additional if necessary.
Some driveways may be more or less depending on condition.

"Dense Grade" is a mixture of 3/4" - 1" Gravel with "Fines" or Stone Dust mixed in. This mixture of larger gravel with smaller dust type particles packs very tightly and provides a very solid surface.
"Washed" stone provides a very clean look and provides a good surface, with good drainage, and nice curb appeal. The lack of "fines" or dust means the material doesn't "lock together" as well as some of the other choices, but its still very solid.
Asphalt Millings are recycled asphalt that is ground up from resurfaced roads. This material can be hit or miss as far as quality goes - the key is it must be ground and screened to 3/4" - 1" or less. Many times, loads can be left with large 3-4" chunks which can be undesirable and not pack well.
Typically Asphalt Millings are a very good

Typically Asphalt Millings are a very good choice for a well-packing, well wearing, solid surface choice. It is less expensive than other choices, but has a little less "curb appeal" as it is a very dark surface with a little more "Commercial" feel.
Reprocessed Concrete is less expensive than other choices, and packs EXTREMELY well and very solid. It is a great choice as a base for a Shed or Hot Tub, and we even use it as a substrate (under the top coat) on driveways and parking areas. Drawback is it is a very "brown" material, with minimal curb appeal and an "industrial" feel.

Asphalt Millings are ground-up, recycled asphalt removed from road repaving projects. When roads are repaved, it is often necessary to remove the top 2-3" of existing roadway to make room for the new ashpalt pavement. This removed material then gets crushed and sifted to become "Asphalt Millings." Using millings for your project is a great way to help recycle and lessen environmental waste.
With compacting over time, Asphalt Millings can and will harden and "pack together" somewhat. Will they be as solid as a Hot-Rolled Asphalt driveway? Absolutely not - but it is also about 15-20% of the price of a new Hot Asphalt Driveway. Millings are a "Cold Pack" product - they are used when cold, then compacted from vehicle usage or with a plate compactor. Due to expense, we do not provide Roller Compaction, but they can be rolled with a large Vibratory Roller for excellent results.
Typically Asphalt Millings are only used on driveways. Due to their asphalt/tar-like appearance, they are not often used in patio or walkway applications.
Although Asphalt Millings pack very well and solid, they are NOT a structural material - meaning they must be applied on top of a solid sub-base surface.
Asphalt Mllings are strictly a "Top Coat."
The strength of the Asphalt Milling surface is ONLY as good as the substrate itself. (The surface it is applied on)
What that means is when using Asphalt Millings, they must optimally be applied to an already-compacted base such as an existing driveway. If you are looking to expand your driveway or parking area using millings, its not as simple as throwing down some millings on your dirt.
For optimal results, the surface must be properly prepared as follows :
